“Package load failure”. Package ‘VSCorePackage’ has failed to load properly ( GUID={7494682B-37A0-11D2-A273-00C04F8EF4FF} ). Please contact package vendor for assistance.

Uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, problem sticks.  :-(

Update: Apparently this error isn't really a sign of complete failure of the development environment, but rather a result of project file corruption. Before the problem occured, the C# compiler in VS tanked and obviously trashed the project file.  New projects still work as expected, but the project that causes this failure is broken.

geeze Clemens, you broke it already? I'm really sorry I don't have any useful advice for you, but lots of sympathy if that helps.

Did you include Crystal Reports in the setup? I had this problem until I wiped, reinstalled Longhorn, then installed Whidbey without CR.

Same problem here under VirtualPC 5.x, then I started again (kept a copy of the image), and it worked fine.

No problems on my desktop, either (2K3 server). Sorry. Uninstall Whidbey and reinstall it!??!

I had the same problem when I used the recent projects menu and selected an solution with an item in it I'd deleted. when it asked me if I wanted to remove, I said "yes", and got that. Restarting devenv helped, but that solution was horked for all eternity.

Clemens, you're my HotD (Hero of the Day). Since several days Whidbey presented my that annoying dialog, and refused to use Forms designer. Finally, I wrote my InitiliazeComponents manually. After reading your blog, I'll have a closer look at the proj files.

Hope to see you tonight ;-) (http://thomasfreudenberg.com/blog/posts/228.aspx)

Hi Clemens,

have the same problems with 'Whidbey' (on Windows 2000; no VM). :-( @ Philip: Thanks for the tip.

Welcome to alpha software ;-) I'm surprised how many functions display a message 'This feature is not included in the alpha release.'. I'm looking forward to get the beta to be able to really work with Whidbey.

Best Regards, Neno
