I am in Los Angeles for PDC05 and I am staying at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. Why is that interesting? Well, because …

Someone at that hotel is apparently thinking that it is a brilliant marketing idea to put little (live) fish into tiny bowls into the guest rooms along with a note that you might want to try out their room service (the note says that you don’t have to feed the fish because the chef is doing that and the chef wants to prepare something for you too). I think that’s a really, really bad idea and it’s pretty cruel. I think I need to talk to the hotel manager there. Save the fish!

The fish looks dead in that picture. LOL I thought you were going to say it was dead and that you weren't too sure you wanted to eat the chef's cooking if thats what got the fish! lol

I think it's a neat idea. It brings some life to boring hotel rooms. Sadly, the blue fish clashes badly with that wood desk. Time to modernize.

That's just plain odd, but then given my day in L.A. anything goes at this point. So are you going to give into the advertising, or do strange experiments with the little bugger? (please post pics if you do)

I agree with Justin on it being a neat idea. There's nothing inhumane/cruel about putting a fish in a fish tank. If it bothers you, tell them to remove it but don't act like the fish is going to need counseling after a week's stay in your hotel room.

So you got a fish! You must be special or have a posh room as min hasn't got any just the same note....then again maybe it died!

I agree with you Clemens, but then I feel putting any animal in confined conditions is a bad thig.

Also, note the complete lack of any plants in the bowl, so the water is not being oxygenated, now whilst this can be overcome with bubblers, look no bubblers either, so this means very regular water changes. Fish dont like regular water changes as it fluctuates the pH balance of the tank.

But then I doubt any one actually gives a damn, whilst at the PDC I saw dogs on sale in a pet shop in small perspex cages, something I have not seen in the UK for twenty years past.

Sadly that looks like a pretty typical desktop Betta setup -- no plants, no oxygenation, small bowl, minimalist environment. However the biggest threat to the fish would be guests loving it to death by polluting the water trying to "feed" it. I think it's cruel to expose any non-domesticated animal to the uninitiated public.
