OT? What are you guys thinking? There's nothing off-topic on a blog since the topic of a blog is you. ;)

aha - but those are all .net weblogs that you pointed to and we have been asked to try to generally keep our posts to .Net related topics. THat's why I'm starting to think about having my own blog. I just hate adding to the noise of that feed when I want to talk about something else.

See? That's why I am not doing a auto-aggregate portal.

So many things are already off-topic for me in this feed... For example, I'm not interested in PDC, so every post in the DotNetWeblogs main feed about PDC is off-topic for me (and they are legion!).
The definition of off-topic is personal.

Clemens: oh how true. That's also why I wouldn't do it.

Fabrice: "The definition of off-topic is personal": Absolutely. I personally don't object to reading these "off-topic" posts.

I usually just add OT: as a courtesy to those who may not want to read about anything not .NET related on the .NET Weblogs main feed. I kind of agree with you that "off topic" doesn't necessarily make sense in a weblog, but we don't really have a better consistent term. Perhaps we should use "Not .NET-related" or "personal" instead for things like that.

The problem, of course, is the compilation of the main feed of more than 250 blogs. Too many non-.NET posts, and the utility of the main feed is decreased. Ideally, each post could have a .NET/non-.NET flag, and if it's non-.NET, it could be filtered out of the main feed. But I think ScottW may have more important things to do with his time than implement such a scheme.

The next version of dasBlog will have on-demand cross-posting between blogs. Stay tuned.

Clemens: Seems as if I should - at some point in time - abandon my installation of Moveable Type in favor of a tool built on "The True Platform" ;-)
